For the first year, this event was by invitation only, but this year is open to any Idaho students that wishing to participate.

Idaho STEM Competition Rules
|
- The overall theme of the project must enhance the quality of life and be humane.
- Projects must demonstrate the student’s knowledge of a particular topic in the fields of science, technology, engineering or math.
- Students must pose a question and then provide their conclusion by presenting independently researched data to support/refute their hypothesis.
- A journal must accompany the project. This allows students to document the data collection process and show judges they have met the criteria.
- A free-standing display (not wall poster) is required. Display must include the name of the project, hypothesis, methods, and conclusion.
- The student must present a defense of their research to the judges. It is preferred that this is done in person but can be done via Skype or other telepresence.
- Abstracts will be required when the projects are registered (Approximately two weeks before the Regional event).
